Therapy

Kate brings extensive experience working with children, young people and families. Her warm, empathic, and collaborative therapy style is tailored to meet the individual needs of her clients and their families, and draws from a variety of evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Attachment Theory, Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP) and trauma-informed therapies. She is dedicated to ensuring that her clients feel heard and valued and she strives to enhance the understanding of a child’s unique strengths, needs and challenges.

Kate sees children and teens who are struggling with a broad range of emotional, social, behavioural, developmental and/or relational difficulties, including:

  • Anxiety (and avoidance), worries or stress
  • Depression, low mood and sadness
  • Poor sense of self or low self esteem
  • School based issues such as study and organisational difficulties, learning difficulties, attentional difficulties, or difficulties coping with school
  • Social and peer difficulties, social conflict, feeling excluded or isolated
  • Emotional and behavioural dysregulation, including frustration, overwhelm and behavioural challenges
  • Challenges associated with disabilities or neurodivergence (including autism and/or ADHD)
  • Body image and eating concerns (excluding diagnosed Eating Disorders under an Eating Disorder Plan)
  • Sleep problems
  • Trauma, difficult life events, and grief and loss
  • Relationships and LGBTQ+/gender diverse issues
  • Obsessive compulsive difficulties
  • Drug and alcohol issues

Kate’s work with children and teens may also involve some individual sessions with their parents/caregivers where appropriate to enhance the effectiveness of therapy.

Please note that Kate does not currently accept referrals for the following:

  • Support, opinion or assessment regarding medico-legal issues (eg. for family court purposes) and she does not provide court reports
  • Learning, educational or psychometric assessments
  • Diagnostic assessments (eg for ADHD or autism)
  • Specialised therapy for individuals with an eating disorder as their primary diagnosis
